I had Dr. Sy Siong Kiao this intersession for Quant 33. I can say that he has extremely comprehensive slide decks! He really tells you what questions to expect in the LTs, and usually removes harder topics from the test coverage to help students. As a result, studying for LTs becomes super manageable. His test questions mirror those in his slides so you can definitely do well in this course with practice. For Quant 33, all our exams were open notes too. He gave us so many bonus points just to get the class average at a passing mark, and opened an optional online quiz at times when the class average for an LT was particularly low. Be sure to always present your papers following a clean, professional format together with a title page because he can be particular with format. All announcements and important instructions for assignments are posted well in advance in the Announcements and Assignments tab on Canvas, which you should check because, for some weird reason, Canvas didn’t send any notifs. He may seem intimidating at first (especially on top of his credentials) but solid prof overall!more

Anonymous member 640 hes also very maarte 😭😭😭 but for his tests, some people would get perfect to -2 highest but people would fail lol 😭 however during the test, he gives hints as to what method to use, what not to do to save time etc. hes really nice js MAARTE HAHAHAHAmore

I took agbayani this intersession and he’s no longer A-able🥲 he only reads through his ppts so most of the time you will have to self-study for his LTs, which are harder now. make sure to study A LOT for the LTs as these can make or break your grade!! consult din your questionnaires, papers, and research with him. B-able with effort, A with super maximum effort and if you are good at stat. he mentioned to us that they are also curbing the grade inflation; hence the harder standards for statmore

had ssk for this class, the class is decent but self study reliant! hes really old so lectures can get really boring because of his tone and volume but so much is covered in each session that youre really gonna have to self study. icl, i dont think i learned anything from classroom sessions (but tbf i didnt listen a lot) and mostly relied on his ppts (which are super comprehensive! great for self studying especially because he has a lot of examples and demos that are pretty well explained) his tests are hard but the questions are pretty much on the same level of difficulty as the examples and demos on his slides or the ones he gives during his review sessions before tests (these review sessions are super helpful!! cut lectures if u want, but do not cut the review sessions). also, he does give out a few opportunities for bonus on the tests! theres also a reseach paper you have to write, hes pretty lenient and chill with it but hes not gonna hand out a's, so the effort and output u give really reflects the grade ur gonna get. overall, with some effort, b+ able, maybe even an a like some of my friends! im really bad at stat and didnt really pay attention to class so i got a c+ lol so yea the amount of effort you exert will reflect your gradesmore

i js took him for quant 30 this sem and genuinely, he wasn’t that bad. we barely had class tho towards the mid-end of the sem lol. discussions were boring but he never asks for recitation or anything. we had 4 LTs and 1 final paper + presentation. the LT’s were not bad at all! he kept saying it was hard but as someone who is a average student and ok in math, i would get a A to B+ in his tests. lowest is a B. for the paper, ummm HAHAHAHA he was very WEIRD when it came to comments, he didn’t read properly, and he gets very old-man technical yfm. but he does a lot of consultations. paper was very hard tho and he wanted like minimum 150 respondents etc. hes js very old school ngl but not bad. overall, he isn’t that bad. probs B+ to B with ok effort. classes are very boring, tests weren’t that bad and he was very DAD vibes HAHAHAHAH and if you are failing, he will tell u and allow u to WP!more

Took him last sem and I would say he's a great prof all things considered. He teaches in a way that you'd understand the lesson well, and doesn't hesitate to extend a helping hand when needed. He's also forgiving when it comes to cuts if you have a valid reason (which was huge for a 3 cut max class) and all his requirements were due at the end of the sem. His classes only lasted 1:30-2:00 hours maximum then we were free to leave after. He's super friendly too! As for workload, it's honestly quite light even for someone who isn't super accustomed to data. All but 1 lab and 1 exercise were done using Tableau and Tableau Prep Builder which are simple enough to learn if you follow along in class (though not strictly necessary). There were 2 exercises, 1 of which being a group one where 90% of it is done in class while the other one could be done in 30 minutes or so. There were also 3 Labs also done by group but can honestly be done solo naman. The 3rd Lab was split into 2 parts, with the second being a quiz based on the data you derive from the first part done in Tableau. Finals had us create and present dashboard with 3 different visualizations and gather 3 key insights/suggested actions based on the data. All requirements were done offsite and everything could be accomplished in a few hours to a day max. In terms of grading, you won't know your grades till after the sem ends because of people's tendencies to submit on the last day of the semester, but he grades fairly high. Class mean seemed to be a high B+. Unless you really don't know what you're doing, you'll likely end up with a B+ at minimum and an A with near-moderate effort.more

Anonymous member 887 if i were to name a con, it would be that sir doesnt exactly have a dynamic voice which did lead to some boring times tbh also i do not recall anything about unli cuts for deans listers unfortunatelymore
