sir carlos he’s super fun and chill, but you also learn a lot from him! his assessments are very straightforward and he’s also such a gem of a prof you’re in good hands with him!more

SincereKiwi1256 I had sir espiritu in JPN 12 His quizzes I’ve seen people get 1/20. And his long tests class average was like 50/100. A-able for those with Japanese backgrounds or grind hard.more
positiveJPN 11
he doesn’t curve but, just like what 681 said, he gives a lot bonus points and chances for everyone to pass his class. He was my prof for JPN 11 during first sem, and honestly, he’s too nice and too forgiving to students who barely put an effort in his class 😭 I have a classmate from my JPN 11 with me in the same JPN 12 class right now, and my current professor once wondered how that student managed to pass flc 11 with his current performance 😅 Jun Sensei may not curve, but I think it would be impossible to fail his class.
His long tests are hard. I think the average of the class was 50/100

no, he does not curve. he gives a lot of bonus points tho by doing extra genki activities, attending events, or if you get voted as best kanji output. he grades high naman in the kanji project (like really high, almost give-away grade). the final exam has a LOT of items tho. review well bc this will either pull up your grade or bring it a letter down.
however, in all japanese classes, there is a higher grade requirement. an A equates to 97-100 (check ur syllabus for the other letters). you’re the only one who can tell if you’ll pass tho 😅 edit: but he will do his best to make sure you won’t retake the class naman, just do the necessary efforts. he can tell you what else you can do during the grade consultations so dont lose hope yetmore

Hi! Had him for JPN12, but the way he teaches 11 is the practically the same.
As per the previous comments, he's very tito and encourages you to do your best in readings and pronunciation. For quizzes and tests they're easy to answer since they're asynchronous on canvas, so notes will get you easy points.
For the modules, he uses the lesson progression from Genki so you'll be using the vocabularies for found in each chapter. For the first few weeks you'll be memorising the katana and hiragana.
He likes giving bonus points for reciting and those really push your grade to the moon.
Overall he's a great prof and you'll enjoy JPN under him.more

hi! i took him during intersession 2223
he has very tito vibes, jokes around every now and then. he’s also very encouraging to students, kahit medyo mali yung pronunciation/sentence structure mo he’ll give you hints or assure you na you’re doing a great job
we had a hybrid set-up at the time but we usually met onsite for lessons and had assessments online (except for the final exam)
onsite sessions are practicing the modules (PLS be prepared, he doesn’t really like it if you don’t check the modules beforehand) + short recitation, usually one by one. we also had typing exercises and we get bonus points for this (can be used for ur quizzes so it really helps boost ur grade)
we had short quizzes online + worksheets where you have to voice record or write sentences. if ur part of the top 5? in these exercises, u get bonus points as well
we had a kana art project competition too! basically making art using a japanese character. you can send a draft/consult with him and he’ll leave comments on how to improve on it
TLDR;
you’ll def enjoy learning japanese from sir! i still remember it even up until today :> very a-able, i think most of us got A or B+more

go for sir junilo espiritu (juntaro sensei)!! the absolute goat!!
he’s funny, nice, and encourages you to learn talaga. plus, he gives out bonus points so very A-able.
but make sure to be nice to him and to read the lessons in advanced, cause he calls out random ppl or ppl by row to recite!more
