Is he strict about using Filipino or does he allow English?

I took Barbaza's Fil Philo class, and the bottomline is that if you're really comfortable using Tagalog for academic discourse, then his class will be an absolute breeze. His LT questions will be answered in class before the actual LT, so there's no need to worry about it. He is rather critical in grading though, so exercise extreme care in defining the terms in your essay. His final oral exam is super chill. It doesn't even feel like an exam because all you have to do is talk about the final paper which you wrote beforehand, and answer some rather easy questions. He conducts his lectures in a clear manner. Honestly, provided you devote your full attention in class, you won't need to read the texts in great depth. He doesn't give quizzes, but reciting in class a lot will help your grade. He is a Batch 2 prof (I think) but among all the Batch 2 profs, his slots tend to run out the fastest.more
Took him last sem, mostly chill lectures and easy to digest readings.
He may not be entirely clear on what he's asking for in his essays, so you'll have to find the proper balance of explaining the text subjectively and objectively. That said, he did grade quite high in my case, but this may vary.
He does oral finals in pairs, and it's more chill than you'd expect, almost like casual dialogue. In my case, he asked me to recap my final reflection paper, and tie it into my thesis statement for the orals. You're asked to integrate one or two readings in your final paper, but he may blindside you in the orals by asking about a reading you didn't include.
He also recommends movies as suggested readings and while they're definitely not required, they just might give you an idea or some bonus points.
Overall, found him to be a pleasant prof and his readings often speak to me and my situation. Again, this may vary.

super solid prof, get him!! 🥹 i had him for philo 11. onsite lectures were really interesting, he even taught some really valuable stuff outside of the syllabus. super chill, light requirements din. 4 objective quizzes 10pts, 1 midcourse elucidation, 1 final reflection paper and then a 15 minute oral!
sometimes i did feel sleepy during his class but honestly i didn't mind. he appreciates all of his students and really gives good feedback. he grades fairly lang, so put in some effort ☺️ tbh 'twas my fav course last sem! B/B+ able!more
