hi! i took him onsite last sem. i have to say that if you don't want to see a grade lower than B on your grade report, run or loadrev while you can. his lectures are good and interesting but you really have to be prepared for the surprise quizzes. the course materials are also good, especially if you're really interested with gender studies and pop culture but this class felt like getting a D was getting an A, if that makes sense. he has a transmutation system for grades so no one will fail (ideally) but we didn't feel that much as a class since the highest final grade seen on his records was a B. he makes it seem like his tests are "common sense" but they're really hard to analyze. all that said, i remember we had two long tests, a mini-docu, surprise quizzes, and a final exam. a student with an A-B+ standing before the final exam has the choice to be exempted from the final exam but no one really got to that point in our case so we all took the final exam. overall, if you don't care about the grade and just want to learn about the course then i'd say he's pretty okay.

I would say it's more generally scale of A to B-able, depending on effort and how you write your essays. Just be prepared to read through selections, watch the films/videos given, and know stuff related to the lectue to get grades within that scale.more

Had him for ArtAp last AY. Tbh, he’s a really great prof, you’ll really have good insights about stuff during the start of the sem but at the latter part, he seemed to deviate so much from our supposed topics (for example, our topic was supposed to be abt the sense of hearing and he’ll end up teaching abt roads and highways in Manila). His quizzes and LTs were also the same, he’ll give quizzes that were not in the given readings nor from the previous lessons (be mindful of this because he really gives bizarre quizzes). Regarding the workload, he’ll give you group report every module, he grades that fairly naman as long as you deliver and give him what the topics ask for. Regardless of that, he’s a really good prof, easy B, B+/A if you really exert effort. Good luck!more

Tbh sir is really nice!! His discussions are very insightful. I learned a lot naman despite having the sem cut short. He gives a lot of quizzes and groupworks tho 😞 lol i found the quizzes rlly hard tbh tas like yung groupworks naman yun yung tipong make an essay with your groupmates and submit it in 10-20 mins HAHA 😞 can’t say much about how he grades since hindi natapos yung sem but I remember that he has a grading system na nagaadjust ng scores ng people! Based on our standing na pinakita niya after our first LT, parang kaya naman B to B+ with effort hehe goodluck!!more

i got him last year and he's so chill online tbh. very minimal workload. in our class before it's only 1 paper per module lang and that's it. 1-2 assigned readings per module too (usually ranges from 12-20 pages). sometimes he'll ask you to watch videos too and that's what you'll need to apply in writing. In writing papers just apply his readings and bring out your tagalog skills. very easy naman to grasp yung idea ng readings niya. the subject is heavy on analysis. Just listen during his sync sessions, he'd usually give an analysis of the readings from there already. He's accommodating too. I remembered asking him if I could redo my final paper and he said since time won't permit it anymore, he'll apply a curve instead. A-able with effort!more

I took him onsite for one interdisciplinary elective, and I have some points for you to consider: - His lectures and class content are quite interesting, especially when it goes into directions you don't typically expect in class. For instance, I didn't know that I would need to learn imagery and knowing about the urbanization of Metro Manila before going through films and literature being studied in class. Really facinating. - He doesn't give finals exams, rather he considers long tests to be the largest when computing for grades. Also of note is that assessments are also graded, but they collectively give out a lower percentage compared to long tests in the grading components. - We typically met one onsite session a week, the other schedule being async. This was the norm for us last semester; I'm not sure if this will be similar come the next. - Make sure to attend all onsite classes, because you will never know when a graded assessment comes. Be prepared (and also ready to make bawi for grades if ever you missed a day or two). - He's willing to give extra credit or other means to pull our grades up when needed. - Really make sure you know your grammar and sentence construction, and also get what he asks for in essays. He is very particular with how you write, which is essential in surviving this class. Overall, he's a fine prof if you really want to learn from someone who expresses great insight but really be prepared to attend all classes and brush up on your Filipino writing skills.more

Has a weird way of assessing students (i.e. we were asked how to go to the National Museum from Ateneo in one quiz and to identify if a picture depicts a sunrise or sunset in another). But otherwise, great lecturer. The average grade in our class was around C+ (he used to show us our progress in class). With effort, B+/A-able. more

Had him for artap 10. At first, he seems nice but his quizzes are not even part of his discussion. We had a lot of quizzes (i think almost every meeting before the class starts). We had groupworks and reporting but he will never give you the perfect score at all. If he doesn't like what you presented, he will give u a huge deduction for your score. He will give kinda vague instructions for the groupwork and expects you to present beyond what he asked for. Make sure to present what he asks for before presenting smth beyond it or else he will give you a low grade (he will give you only 50% of the perfect score). Idk if that makes sense huhu. He is nice tho since i am always late for his class (it was an 8 am class in arete) but he extends his quiz time so late comers can answer the quiz. As the sem progresses, tbh, i don't know where he gets the questions for the lt's 😅 even though you study for the lt, you are not prepared for the questions. We had readings but he will never get questions from it. We watched movies from time to time and we had good discussions about it. I like how he discusses things and i say i learned a lot. But the effect of his idk-where-he-gets-it quizzes and lt's makes me forget the those amazing discussions. I say he is B-able with effort and B+ with super effort. I think the class average is C+/B (??) because he will show the whole class your grades. Only few people got B+ from our class and it was borderline B/B+. Ask him for the content of lt. Like specific part, is it multiple choice? What type of questions?? Etc. Most of the time he will answer naman, but that won't fully prepare you for his questions. Maybe you'll have an idea but you need have a good general knowledge stocked in your brain. Idk how he will conduct this online class tho. I guess good luck hehemore

hi! had him last sem. his lectures are quite interesting HOWEVER, be warned that he can be difficult. here are some things to note: - he gives pop quizzes so assume that every lecture has a quiz on it the following session - study the LRT and MRT! he expects you to know the stops,routes, roads AND where the sun hits at certain times of day - get the PHYSICAL copy of Pasakalye. if u dont u are screwed. he says that soft copy is okay, but he used it against my classmates later on in the sem - beadle if you can, he will be kinder - review the Philippine landmarks!! - he grades very low (mostly because of the pop quizzes). average of the class was C-D, even for prev batches. - dont be late to class, and DO THE BONUS ACTIVITIES IT WILL PULL UP YOUR GRADE! there were times where he said to prepare for one thing but quizzed us on smthg completely different so keep that in mind. may time na binawi niya yung mga bonus points namin kasi napikon siya so 🥲 if you can, dont get Devilles. interesting topic but difficult prof.more

I won’t specify other infos na because all the comments here are TRUE. If u really care about your QPI, run away from sir Devilles ‘cause he is the most inconsiderate prof i’ve ever had. You’ll have quizzes every sync sesh and it was draining for me. On the contrary (in my perspective lang ok?), i learned naman. I do commute for sponty trips even before I had him last sem, so I think the LRT-MRT routes are quite easy if u know the places and stations (which is nagagamit ko naman ngayon more). He may be one of the worst profs, but sir Devilles made me realize a lot of things & deeper societal issues. My hardest A so far with ultra mega todo max effort (walang tulog ang aabutin mo dito ‘cause you need to study readings & his book talaga for just a 10-point quiz na out of nowhere pa). I also took all the bonus points including wearing a Filipiniana in his class just to get 3 points for the exam. if u’re unlucky this sem and u got him, my inbox is open for mga advice 😭more

took sir devilles for fili 12 last sem and i can say he was my worst ateneo prof experience. hopefully, it stays that way. if u want to get good grades and learn, load rev out. QPI's were destroyed and i learned barely anything at the end of the sem. Reqs: -his only requirements are quizzes (can be unnannounced) and long tests -quizzes and long tests are always multiple choice and t or f, except for one pop quiz after holy week that was identification (average score was like 1/10) -there are no assignments, essays, and group activities which are nice if you hate those kinds of assessments but then it also gives you no chance to pull up your grade -at the end of a quiz or long test, he chooses people from the class to answer questions which can be considered another quiz in itself (10/10 if u get the answer correct, 6/10 if you get the one answer wrong but correct in another, 4/10 if you do not get any question right, 0/10 if ure late so NEVER BE LATE) Topics -CRAZY he will tell you that the quiz is about the 'panahan ng galyon' but he will test you on where certain landmarks are in NCR -u can ask him for the topic, but i wouldnt suggest trusting him. -i would suggest reading the introduction of each chapter, he usually gets questions from there -memorize the authors of each literary work -bayabayin is part of the topics but he gives a cheat sheet -learn the NCR roads Grades -His grading mechanics are purely based on quizzes(40%) and long tests(60%) but at least he has this grade transmutation thing that you only need to get like a 20% to get a D -average of our class was still C/C+ -He has bonus activities (like going to a play, going to intramuros) but he only gave plus 1 point to one of our quizzes which tbh for me wasn't worth it to my grades but I had a lot of fun with my blockmates ❤ -make sure u have a hardcopy of the pasakalye bc he will give plus points for that attitude -hes the editor of pasakalye so he's kinda arrogant (maybe not kinda) -he can be mean at times (he would single you out in class if you can't answer a question and say ure not deserving to be in Ateneo lmao). We also tried to approach him during his consultation time in his office but he got mad at us and tried to turn us down. he eventually gave in after we begged him ❤ Sir Devilles Fili 12 will definitely help ur block bond if u like trauma bonding. Since the course was "panitikan ng pilipinas", here is a literary work by my blockmate made in one of his classes.more
