despised this prof last sem as his classes were so unbearable with how he discusses (used up all my cuts). the quizzes he gave were unnecessarily hard to the point that u have to review like its a midterm/final exam. hes also a very stingy grader with his assessments

He’s A-able with effort!! His classes are a little daunting if you take him for the first time but trust the process :> As long as you show your effort through papers or recitation, he’ll notice it. I got a B+ from him so it isn’t impossible :))more

i think… trust the curve for that A… read the readings before quizzes (we had around two) then the other ones are just an individual paper and a group creative output. final output is a group paper as well. good luck 💀more

Anonymous member iirc we had at least 4 papers? People don’t like the way he teaches because it can be confusing but personally I learned so much from him! I really recommend him :>>more

Ophelia Louise Faye Hiii he was k lang 😭 Agree with the other reviews mostly. I got a B+ hehe, and idk anyone in my class who got an A. Others I know got a C. I think the key is to get good group mates! But even so, hes super picky lang talaga lol. He’s a nice guy thoughmore

he curved a quiz once, even explained the math during class (many from the class still failed despite it). not sure if he curves overall grades

Anonymous member are you active in class? (this pushed me to the A) i would say its a medium boost, since the lowest grade possible is 30% on each assignment so you get boosted a bit (not 30% tho)more

run away from sir art 🤣 his discussions are not productive. he usually doesn’t teach—he asks the class on their opinions and spends more time pausing than actually talking. majority of the class didn’t learn anything. his quizzes are also hard (mcq, modified true or false, identification). he also grades really low for essays + gives feedback towards the end of the semester.more

Took CANOY for the whole online 1st sem! 🤗 PROS - he’s really funny and passionate during synch sessions which we have once every 2 weeks if I’m not mistaken? - for lab, we have group consultation slots prior to every submission/assessment which really helps 😊 - I really liked his readings; they were thorough & helpful without being too long; plus he uses his own really cool studies as examples for concepts which helps! - super accommodating; he moved deadlines when needed and gives encouragement too 🥺 - clearly an expert in Field Methods and ^ his studies prove it 😁 - grades fairly; no BS allowed in this class - replies and grades within a reasonable timeframe & has really helpful comments CONS - he does NOT use Canvas, he just has an email thread where he sends reminders and attaches all the readings; this was personally not so organized for me but I had classmates who actually preferred it to Canvas (so preference nalang) - I personally felt like synch sessions were too sparse and you definitely have to read the readings fully to understand what is expected of you - mostly pair/groupwork so you all have to work hard together 💪🏼 Overall loved the guy and appreciated how good-natured he is within the online setting! 😌 would super recommend especially if you want to learn, just be ready to not be spoon-fed (and to really read the readings)! more

A-able but with lots of effort so recite a lot and ask for comments before submissions! his quizzes were mostly identification and mc so know your readings well. although he posts his powerpoints, you need to read pa rin or pay attention during class. i passed my quizzes but got fairly low yet i still got an A! i made up for it with my papers and recitation. RECITE A LOT! just keep raising your hand. sometimes he tries to debate with you rin so just know what you're talking about.more

Do well on the individual paper and get good groupmates. For his quizzes, read every reading (like READ and ANALYZE, remember every detail kung kaya). His tests include identification, which is hard to answer if you haven’t read the materials. His discussions are boring because of the long pauses, and most of the time you can tell he’s just talking pa just to maximize the time. Make sure na alam niya yung pangalan mo and try to recite 3+ times every session. Sa grading, there are times that you wouldn’t understand why you got that grade. For example, he gives positive comments on your work, but when you check the grading breakdown, points were deducted from the very criteria he praised.more

He didn't always know what he was talking about during lectures, super slow at grading, medyo magulo in general, grading is meh, comments were confusing and honestly didn't matter since we had already started on the next assignment. Asked for comments on our paper and he was happy to give naman but he gave them suuuuper late lmao Pretty light class though, few deliverables, which also made it harder to get an A. B+able with effort It wasn't the worst class, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend itmore

Ez A as long as you just recite a lot in class and take advantage of his bonus points reporting opportunity towards the end of the semester. Agree with other comments dont take it if you wanna learn, he is boring inaantok din ako minsan, he doesnt give constructive feedback. but as far as core subjects profs go, what matters is boosting your qpi right? HAHAHAH The outputs kasi is a group paper (there are 4 of them and a final one iirc) our group wasnt really that high sa papers but I got an ez A because I participated a lot.more

all i can say is ure like listening to a pointless podcast without the pauses being edited out 🙂 he does not give feedback nor does he have a clear rubric and instruction for the work he's assigning the class overall, if u wanna learn, his class won't give you that ☺️more

Anonymous member 429 Hi! Just engage a lot in the class discussion. He presents lots of social cases, dont be afraid to say your views about the topic kasi there is no right and wrong answer, only perspectives. He really appreciates that. He is really understanding and considerate as long as you are respectful din. Valid din other reviews saying he tends to ramble and medyo blocky ang ppt niya. Dont focus on taking notes, it wont help since he gives the slides. Just focus on listening and engaging in the class. Magulo siya mag grade yeah, unclear rubrics and expectations yeah. But more than that class participation is important, my mid performance with the group couldve been a 3 or 3.5 at most but the class participation makes it a 4. Goodluck! Dont be pressured and try to enjoy lang hahahahmore

no, but he has an alternative grading system which he should have explained in class. what is on canvas is not the “final grade” apparently. so expect a marginally higher grade than what you compute. his quizzes are very difficult. the readings are hard and the quizzes really punishes you for not reading it closely. hard A u gotta be really into socio… (or be partners/groupmates with one)more

Anonymous hi anon! iirc, mostly essays, reflection papers, discussion boards and a few projects that have to be submitted by group!! i remember our final project being divided into two parts for the whole semester,, but there's not much time alloted during class to actually discuss. we spent most of our time in class listening to sir art, and not much to actually meet with our group and work on our project. his discussions weren't as helpful as well for the assignments! he graded our papers around 2.5-3.5, rarely someone would get above 3.5more

had sarmiento last sem and i would say it’s chill but u don’t learn much from her 😭 quizzes are very readings based (then the ppts r just copy pasted from the readings) questions are very niche details from the reading BUT once u get the pattern of what she focuses on in that particular reading you’ll survive the midterm and finals (+she tells u naman minsan which pages to focus on) as long as you study even just a bit for the tests u won’t fail naman BUT getting an A-B+ will take LOTS of effort. my classmates n i struggled with the quizzes since they r usually objective t/f questions that r 2pts each so once u get it wrong minus 2 agad 😭😭 personality wise though ma’am is kind naman and madali syang kausap when it comes to extensions and shifting to online. some quizzes can also be cancelled if u think it’s too much for ur sched but there will be a midterm and final exam (mostly objective with 1-2 essay questions)…non negotiable yan 😭 + one group report overall she’s a 50-50 option for socsc12…mabait and easy to communicate with but A/B+ with a LOT of effort 😅more

get sarmiento!! i took her last sem and despite her reviews here, she’s really chill and flexible (she discusses the calendar w students and also flexible w the setup whether onsite or online + she also gives incentives), although her quizzes are just medj memorization heavy but she’s a/b+ as long as u go thru the ppts tbh.. took millo 2 sems ago, learned nothing, doesn’t rlly teach (he’s fond of asking students in class to explain…) plus super labo with instructions, and grades unreasonably low. afaik he graded our class b/c majoritymore
