Anonymous member 335 no we didn’t at all during classes (during my time). I’ve never heard of that rumor. I didn’t really find it fun since I was expecting more from the class (fun engagements, activities, etc.) You might enjoy it if you’re expecting something very chill with interesting lessons, but I will say don’t expect it to be a different kind of class since the topic is food. It’s just like any other class with a lot of lectures and reqs. I don’t want to say it’s easy A, but it’s definitely one of the easier classes to get an A in or at least a B. At the very least, it’s more difficult to fail or get a grade lower than a Bmore

if it helps as someone who managed to pass (i didnt get a B ) kapag face-to-face session, always try to consult about the word problems or even concepts (better) that ma’am posts after the lecture (para at least may clarify mo individually yung pagkakaintindi mo). she can explain it to you depending on how you are asking it. However, if di kaya, your best bet talaga is searching online and asking your other blockmates. gl anon hahamore

Doc Oui's LTs are very notorious 😭 I recommend taking advantage of her consultation hours talaga, go through your quizzes/problems in her lecture/worksheets that you don't completely understand. Also don't completely rely on her lecture slides to study, please read the book! You can also answer the sample problems there if you have time (she emphasizes using the book as well at the start of class), it will Save you I promise 😭 Also the final paper really pulls your grade up so I recommend you take advantage of her consultations. Her comments are helpful and she usually sets her expectations in terms of what she wants to see in the paper during the consult. TLDR; Tiyagain mo talaga mag-ask for consultations, read the book, and if meron, umasa sa curve 😭 Good luck anon!more

You can try computing for your grades muna using the syllabus as a guide. If super drastic nung difference, I think you can ask her about the grades breakdown. Show your own computation as proof ganon I initially got a D when I took her but she appealed a grade change kasi may hindi ata nadagdag/mali ang pagkakacheck na assessment in our batch(?) before the grades were submitted. It ended up pulling my grade to a C (just note na even though prof initiated yung grade change, it took so long for the changes to reflect on aisis, for us parang 5 months ata or something like that)more

I think, as what was mentioned above, you should compute your grade using the syllabus she gave. So take whatever scores you know, the midterms and 2 quizzes, and try to compute yourself according to the percentages stated in the syllabus. Then ask maam to show you the breakdown of your grades and ask her to explain the grade you got. Per the handbook, students have the right to know their grades so profs are obligated to show them. Few problems lang tho. Maam is the chair so youre kinda bound to whatever decision she makes because you cant bring the issue higher. Another is that she has to respond to you on time before intersession starts otherwise hindi na pwede magappeal, the window will close. Also based on what you said na your scores are low, baka her computation was correct? Can I ask lang in that case why you would want to appeal? if u dont polish up on your genchem skills you will get super lost in her class since di niya dinidiscuss ulet even if it's js for clarification :') light workload if ur disciplined (we had 1 quiz lang for the whole sem + 1 take home problem set per module pero its due during finals week) overall, expect to rely a lot on self studying since she only scratches the surface during lectures. try and find out yung mga resources na gamit niya since there isn't a lot na pinopost niya sa canvas. one problem i had also was the exam doesn't really align with the lectures as much or atleast not explicitly (again she scratches the surface and relies on u and ur resources from god knows where to actually gain a deeper understanding) i rmb having to use the henderson-hasselbach equation which iirc she didn't discuss and good thing na i remembered it from my lab class or there's no way i would know :') if you expect to be able to keep track of your standing in class, i'm going to hold your hand when i tell u this....haKJHJASh she doesn't return work and if she does it's super duper late (we only got our midterm grades after taking the finals, tapos when we got our advisory grades dun lang namin nalaman ung score namin) you would be forced to have to do well in every single assessment kasi there isn't a lot (again, we had 1 quiz through out the whole sem, it was the sole basis ng advisory grades namin since by the time they were given out yun palang yung naaccomplish namin lmao and yes saka lang namin nalaman yung score namin when she gave out the advisory grades). also she doesn't send ppt slides, you have to take pictures/notes in class if u want a copy of the slides lol. overall: B-able with lots and lots and lots of effort T_Tmore

Super nice!! It’s the kind of class where you need to put in effort naman but she’s very accommodating and friendly towards inquiries and all that. I talked to her a few times to clarify stuff and she was happy to entertain questions and such. Assessments are weekly but they’re fun so I really did enjoy them ^^ Overall its a class that makes you actually wanna put in the effort and she really gives a cozy feel when teaching (had her as my last class for the day and it was such a relief every time). As others said, sit in front kasi soft spoken talaga, but if you can listen in class she’s worth the time! Would recommend sensei to anyone tbh. My fave prof from my first college sem.more

Get her!! Ma'am's so kind and sweet 😊 Classes are also enjoyable, and she likes interacting with everyone Her voice is just a tad bit soft, so I *highly* recommend sitting in the front In terms of workload, it's moderate, and you'd really have to put in the time to study (I guess as all languages do anyway). We had 2–3 online exercises due almost weekly, a few onsite quizzes (if you study & do the exercises, it shouldn't be too much of a worry), a group presentation, a few quick dyad role plays, and a final onsite exam. I think A or B+ with effort, B with average effortmore

I agree with Julian! I had ma’am as well for my Japanese Food Culture class. Her voice was probably the softest I have ever heard in my life HAHAHA and since she’s Japanese, she also has an accent when she speaks so you might have an added struggle when it comes to her lectures. Even though I sat in front, I could barely hear her talaga but maybe that’s just a me problem. We had 2 classes per week and she had weekly homework which were usually discussion boards in canvas. The workload was relatively easy and can be done within a reasonable amount of time. Though ma’am tends to be open to deadline extensions if the class asks her. Hopefully her powerpoints have improved because she tends to have such small font sizes to the point that she struggles to read it herself sometimes. Her canvas assessments also usually have vague instructions so it would be best to ask her for clarification beforehand. Overall, I would agree rin with Julian that her class would be an A or B+ with average effort. Just make sure to get front row seats talaga to her class so you can actually hear her lectures.more

Anonymous member 335 Hi! I took this class last year before I graduated, so I’m not sure if ma’am has made some changes. When I took the class, we had submissions every week (usually deadline is Friday). These are usually discussion boards or short essays, all of which you have to do research for. Ma’am grades fairly and when she sees that you didn’t put in effort, she’ll give you a low grade, so make sure that you have reliable sources. Discussion boards sometimes have long vids that you have to watch (tho you can watch with 1.5/2x speed HAHA). There are also group tasks and presentations and you’re grouped randomly. One task is fusion food, so your group has to make a dish that’s inspired by Japanese and another cuisine from another country. Overall, the class was alright. I joined the class because I love food and I thought it would be fun, but sessions were literally just ma’am discussing and not much areas for recitation. I found them chill but boring because she has a soft voice so you really have to pay attention and there are no class activities to make sessions more engaging and fun. Workload is not that heavy but it can be stressful because you do have a submission every week. Even tho most are just short essays and discussion boards (100-300 words iirc) thorough research will eat up some time. The readings are very long but you don’t have to read them at all (I never touched a single page of the readings HAHA). Definitely A-able if you put in the work. Again, take this review with a grain of salt. Good luck!more
