My friend had him for feature writing then sports writing (2-5, 5-8). Sir Ruey was unpredictable with his arrival time HAHAHA as in kahit na nandun na siya at 330 for our 2-5, malalate pa rin daw siya for the 5-8. Zzzzz. I took feature writing, and it was chill naman. He's written a lot so he knows his stuff, and his stories are fairly interesting. A little strict about formatting, but not exaggeratedly so. (Not sure if you'll really...learn anything, though. HAHAHA pero feature writing naman yun.)more

I took him for Writing About Culture and he's really unpredictable with his time! Almost every session he'd be late for almost an hour, sometimes even two. His workload was light and he grades really high but sobrang nasayangan ako 'cause I really felt I could've learned so much more from the class if only he gave more lectures. Also, I felt disappointed with the class itself because he didn't explain much of how journalism can have a thread that ties closely to culture and how culture has multiple facets journalism can go into. We just did a lot of reviews on books, movies, etc. and I felt it wasn't enough to conclude on that Subject Titlemore

good luck diva ✊ def A-able but at what cost 😐 i'd say he's nice naman in class, but he's pretty hot and cold so u never know 100% when he'd be in a joking mood or Super Professional. still, very straightforward to talk to. he's also very critical, but take any harshness he has as a way to improve your work. workload was only the research paper, with the occasional activities or quizzes. we only had one quiz, but he kept threatening to give us more LOLLL. he gave us bonus activities to pull up our grades, which were generally very simple to do (attend a play, film videos, make playlists). also watch out for his DLs, because he is strict abt the ones he sets. for example, if one member in ur grp wasn't able to submit a peer eval, ALL of u get a 0 😀 good luck guys u will Never forget this classmore

i forgot how i ended up taking his class because i don't actively follow any professional sports/players & i'm not really into that whole world but i LOVED sir ruey. but that's because i love to write. he's an amazing teacher with the most entertaining & insightful kwentos about EVERYTHING you can think of regarding the history of sports, sports & sports teams & players, everything, both local & international. i was just in awe of his brain. you'll have a lot of papers but trust me he'll make you want to work hard on them! 9/10 he's late for class but don't cut because you'll definitely miss out! A-able af. he's one of my favorites! expect: papers x 19247280000 teaching style: he just makes it one massive conversation tips: DO YOUR RESEARCH! as in siguro 50 tabs will be open on your laptop while doing your final paper haha. but the whole class is honestly so interesting you won't mind. you also won't have a hard time listening to his lectures- it's obvious he lives & breathes sports. he got annoyed with me once because i came in like one hour late hahaha so don't do thatmore

[ONLINE] ⚡️ since there's no 2020 thread for him, here's a review for his COMM 180.13 (Online Journalism) class! - Manageable requirements; assignments are based on type of online journalism output (ex. topic article, webcast, breaking news report). we wrote at least one new thing every two? three weeks ⌚️✅ - Synch class every Thurs evening, which you end up going to because his discussions are v energetic and enthusiastic abt the topic/timely with current events - Recit based on discussion boards, mostly objective (madalas opinyon mo re: current social issues) - Zoom savvy - Grades high! I got an A for all my submissions, he puts little comments to show appreciation too heh Highly recommend!!more

SIR RUEY IS THE BEST PROF EVER!!! ❤️ I took him for 2 straight sems and I enjoyed every class. He makes a real effort to get to know each student in his class. He’s very open-minded and loves discourse so if you have any questions or random kwentos, he’ll be there to listen and engage in convo. His online classes are not much different than on-site because he really keeps the class engaged in the lesson. He’s very consistent when giving assignments (clear with due dates, instructions, and what he’s looking for) and grades very high. Altho, I don’t think he’s an easy A because he is VERY patricular with grammar, brevity, and word choice. He’s my favorite prof talaga hahaha and I HIGHLY suggest that you take him. His class definitely made me a better writer 😀more

+ more on sir Ruey (but I only had him for Feature Writing): Classes were super fun and interesting and ya true na 1-2 hours late siya every class huhu. Mataas siya mag-grade and he himself says so! He’s super experienced in the field (and he has interviewed famous celebrities you can search online his articles.) Overall super duper fun and chill classmore

serious review: i think everything that was in the other macon post still applies. stick to the recommended deadlines, try to get everything approved asap, don't let yourself be ragebaited, and you'll be fine! also choose a group whose work ethic aligns w yours, and ALWAYS CHECK YOUR EMAIL!!!! also if ur grade conscious, he's very A-able and he gives a lot of extra credit, up to 4 or 5 points sa final grade ata. don't be afraid of your raw grade! it will be fine (source: me na C+ sa raw defense grade and A sa final)more

this is his first year teaching and during intersession pa so he was really testing the waters sa amin. 😭 for context, he has work every weekdays so our schedule was 8-5 pm every sat for 6 weeks… overall experience i can say clutch and siksik malala. (-) since we only had 6 sessions we are overwhelmed sa schedule. first session pa lang dapat approved na topic and then second session dapat complete na full chapter 1. since may research background siya, he has super high standards. mabilis siya magturo, rapper siya minan teh. very concept heavy na related sa math/nunbers; hindi ko masyado napusuan kasi comm is qualitative in nature. info overload yung ppt. hindi rin naturo properly yung pagbasa ng data pero again baka nga kasi tight sa time. we were tasked to do an activity sa JASP, a platform na we had no idea paano gamitin but he expected an output at the end of the day. most of the groups did their (and ours too) data analysis unsure—di alam if tama ba or mali ginagawa nila. 😭 his relationship with the students can be blurry at times (unsure if he wants a friendly environment or a formal/professional one). (+) lenient super, i think he was kinder to us because of the limited time so he told us na hanggang initial findings na lang kami but he told us sa mga mag-full sem he expects a full on research paper and defense with panel. consult lang nang consult sa email he’s willing to guide students. he provides comments that are actually helpful—hindi yung change this, change that, nagbibigay siya explanation. he appreciates those who recites and tries their best. vibes, chikadora, vakluan sometimes ganern. overall, he is passionate about quanti kaya nagiging yapper siya na it can also be overwhelming. very much willing to help you naman as long as you reach out. tip is get solid groupmates (same interests + good work ethic) para trauma bonding kayo 😍more

A learning curve for sure but with a lot of good learning opportunities to come w it! Agree with most of what my classmates have said, he’s def fun to talk to but when it’s work time it’s serious and it can get overwhelming. It’s definitely difficult, but you’ll end up learning a lot about the research process. Prof rlly cares abt the subject, and he cares that your research works out and he will help as long as you put in your effort talaga. Be scared but also don’t be scared, he’s very constructive naman! Most important part of all of this is good groupmates and being very committed and careful with the process!more
