Bump pls. How is his teaching and class like recently? Were there any changes from the previous reviews?

I think this is his first time teaching economics! So regarding his grading style and workload, I don't really know since it's his first time to teach the subject. Nonetheless Sir Josh is very active in the local civil society scene, so he knows what's happening on the ground. He recently headed a youth empowerment workshop for Mindanaoan youth leaders in preparation for the upcoming 2022 elections (which I participated and met Sir Josh haha), so you can see that he's very passionate about these kinds of causes! He's also very active in YSEALI, which is the American government project for youth capacity-building in ASEAN.more

if u have a heavy workload I suggest taking someone else 🥲 as mentioned by the others he really does value participation and at least for my class he made it a point to call that out, so much so that he started requiring attendance bc “tough love” when he noticed a dip in turnout kahit bawal naman. his values are a lot like mine and I did appreciate the things we talked abt in class but he would also take like 30 minutes to do housekeeping at times, would message me a lot kahit hindi naman ako yung beadle, and decided not to hold a final session for my class na bc of weird miscommunication (he found out he couldn’t hold onsite classes on saturdays so he pitched to us the day before the class to meet him outside of campus … and all of us were like no we do not feel comfortable w that so idk feeling ko nafrustrate siya samin LOL) i got an A bc of good groupmates but also bc of good indiv output, but a lot of ppl got around B+ to C+ din. a lot of my grievances I think were born of the class being online and my section being composed of all CS students with a 23 unit workload, so take my review w a grain of salt!more

henlo sim! 😊😊 i believe it's the first time that sir josh will teach socsc 13, so idk his grading and workload ~~ in consolation, he was my block's NSTP 12 formator attitude-wise, he's level-headed and approachable for matters that concern bigkis — and that may be advantageous din in terms of how socsc 13 and socio 193.1 will go teaching-wise, he maximized the use of collaborative online learning platforms (e.g., mentimeter, jamboard), which made everyone engaged namanmore

Hello! Josh (he prefers to be called so) is one of the most passionate professors I've had! He also has lots of experience in development work so you really get insight from his narratives. His modules are well-designed and not just all text so it was manageable despite being a content-heavy class. He's also very understanding and fast to reply with emails (I was beadle and communication was always smooth, don't be afraid to raise concerns). He reduced our requirements to 2 individual DBs and 1 group DB per module (instead of 5 mini-DBs) + a midterm exam, an individual paper, and a final group paper that's integrated with NSTP (+ a major class for us). Overall, moderate workload but it becomes heavy because of the integration with NSTP so make sure to get good groupmates! Feedback wasn't given immediately for reqs but he made us check our grades before release! Definitely A-able! 10/10 would recommend.more

Josh is very passionate about the discipline. Show up, read the packet, and bring to the class your point of view-I guarantee you’ll get an A. This is a class you’ll struggle with if you don’t care about your kapwa. The specifics like the workload is specified by above comment na. My short opinion on that is it’s easy when you have great classmates and good group mates.more

she’s the nicest! took her for sts 10 two years ago (sy 23-24, 2nd sem) for workload, we had short assessments (20%) and four long exams (80%). the short assessments were homeworks/papers, quizzes, peer evaluation, and final reflection paper. the long exams were on paper which include objective-type questions and essays. altho, the long exam 3 was a group paper and submitted online. classes were chill! she doesn’t really call on people to recite and more on voluntary, but she seems appreciative of those who share their thoughts. also, she’s strict about having our phones on mute or just using our phones in general during class. she’s cool! take her class and focus on the readings because most of her questions came from that.more

hi! thought i’d share my experience even though i took ma’am dawn this intersession for envi 172i teaching / lecture - very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject! - slides are mostly pictures so you really need to listen - no using of phones cause it distracts her (laptops and tablets are allowed). actually very helpful for you to really listen lol - readings are long but listening during the lectures will save you from reading those requirements - 3 long tests (mod 1-2, mod 3-4, synthesis). it was essay type for us but may differ depending on subject - 1 group presentation - 2 group seat works (she’ll tell the readings included) - grades fairly (as long as you listen to her lectures, you’ll get a high score!) tip - avoid cutting her class (or at least don’t cut as a group hahaha) overall - a ( w/ effort) to b+ (w/ little effort - at least on my part) - she is very kind and approachable - i swear just listen to her lectures and you’ll be GOOD!more

I LOVE MS DAWN She’s the peak Atenean experience. Her teaching style is very engaging—discussions are chill but super insightful. She explains concepts so clearly without needing to overcomplicate, and you'll really absorb a lot from her lectures. When it comes to tests, she usually gives 4/8/10/15-item quizzes (aside from the long tests + departmental exam)—either true or false, identification, multiple choice, or mixed. The questions are so well-thought out and mind-stirring that even with just a few items, mapapaisip ka talaga haha The workload isn’t that heavy, and it actually feels manageable because she really guides everyone well. Everything you do has a clear purpose: to apply and deepen your understanding, kaya it never feels like busy work. She also grades very fairly. She really reads and assesses everything you submit. She gives detailed feedback on your outputs, so you know exactly what you did well and what to improve. She even gives helpful advice on how to be better next time. Some people might find her grading a bit strict, but with effort, she's definitely B+/A-able.more
